Geographic Regions of Western Australia

The map of Western Australia shown below identifies the main geographic regions of the state. To access information about each of the regions click on areas of the map or click the region names shown on the right.

Western Australia covers 2,645,615 square kilometres (or 1,021,478 sq miles), with a coastline that is more than 12,000 kilometres (8,000 miles) long. The state includes all of the land on the Australian continent located to the west of the 129th meridian.

Perth and Fremantle are the most popular tourist destinations in the state, although Broome is probably the most exotic location. Broome is however located a long way from Perth.

The south west region of the state is very popular with visitors, especially locations such as Margaret River, Mandurah, Bussleton and Albany. Each of these locations have their own unique environments and individual styles.
