Mindarie is an outer northern coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is situated 36 km from Perth’s CBD. It is bordered by the ocean on the west, Tamala Park on the south, Marmion Avenue on the east and Quinns Road on the north.

The name Mindarie is derived from the name of Mindarie Lake, a Noongar Aboriginal word meaning “the place near which is held a ceremony” or “green water” and was first noted by Alexander Forrest in 1874. The lake is located off Delich Road in Carabooda, 16 km away.

Mindarie was unpopulated until the 1980s. A developer then proposed to name the area Clarkson. Finally, in 1985, the name Mindarie was selected and gazetted. Two major projects ie. The Mindarie Keys and a refuse plant to accommodate landfill waste from Perth, Stirling and Wanneroo councils were proposed. The environmental conscious local community then formed the Quinns Rocks Environment Group to assess and study the proposals.

In 1988, southern Mindarie was gazetted as Tamala Park and set aside for refuse waste disposal. Between 1988 and 1990, Smith Corporation developed Mindarie Keys which includes the harbour, marina and hotel. Plagued with many problems throughout the development of Mindarie Keys, the first residents eventually moved in during 1987. The hotel was opened to public in 1989. The west and south of Mindarie was finally developed by 1998. Some of the residences here are very exclusive looking and have private jetties leading into the waters.

Much of the population, were born in United Kingdom. Mindarie is mainly a residential suburb with 2 small shopping centres to cater for its daily needs and Ocean Keys Shopping Centre in nearby Clarkson to cater for its commercial services. Other facilities include pubs, a micro brewery and a café.
