Hovea, Western Australia

Hovea is a suburb in Mundaring Shire in Western Australia and is situated beside John Forrest National Park, about 30 minutes drive east of Perth.

A section of the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail runs through the National Park and Hovea. During the 1890s, Hovea was the nearest railway station for those visiting the John Forrest National Park. It was also popular for those traveling from Perth to Hovea for a day’s excursion to experience the bush. In 1936 the National Park railway station was built and when the railway was closed in 1966 and removed, it became part of the Railway Reserve Heritage Trail.

The Railway Reserve Heritage Trail (formerly known as the Eastern Railway) is located to the north of Hovea and Glen Forrest and Great Eastern Highway are situated to the south. On the west of Hovea, is the John Forrest National Park.

The terrain is made up of mainly hills and valleys and the native bush land is good for bushwalking and picnicking. There are local wineries to visit to enjoy wine tasting and sample fine, homemade produce and art at the local craft shops.
